What you can import into Zambia

No age ban

Zambia does not ban older used vehicles. Duty depends on the age band: 2–5 years or over 5 years.

Fixed duty for most vehicles

ZRA charges a set amount by body type, engine size (or weight for pickups and trucks) and age, plus a small carbon emission surtax.

Zambia drives on the left. All our UK vehicles are right-hand drive.

Roadworthiness inspection

Used vehicles need a roadworthiness inspection before shipping. Ask us how this is arranged for your vehicle from the UK.

Shipping route

We ship to Dar es Salaam. Most buyers then drive or truck the vehicle to Lusaka through the Nakonde border; Durban is also used for southern Zambia.

Rules last checked October 2026. Import rules and taxes change, so always confirm the latest position with your clearing agent before you buy. We'll also check for you before you pay.

Zambia import duty calculator

For most used vehicles ZRA charges a fixed amount (specific duty) set by body type, engine size (or weight for pickups and trucks) and age band, which covers customs duty, excise, VAT and fees. A small carbon emission surtax is added. Vehicles under 2 years old and hybrids are charged a percentage of the CIF value instead.

This is an estimate. ZRA (Zambia Revenue Authority) makes the final assessment when the vehicle is cleared. Clearing agent, port charges and inland transport are not included. On any vehicle in our stock, tap Get CNF price to see the shipped price and the duty together.
