Kenya allows right-hand drive vehicles up to 8 years from first registration. We ship UK vehicles to Mombasa, and our Kenya stock page only shows vehicles that qualify (2019 or newer).
Only vehicles first registered within the last 8 years. In 2026 that means first registered in 2019 or later. The limit moves forward every 1 January.
Counted from first registration
Age is based on the year of first registration, not the year of manufacture, so check the date on the registration document.
Right-hand drive only
Kenya only accepts right-hand drive vehicles. All our UK vehicles are right-hand drive.
Certificate of Roadworthiness
Used vehicles from the UK need a Certificate of Roadworthiness from QISJ, the inspection company appointed by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
Without the certificate
Vehicles that arrive without a valid certificate are inspected at the destination, at a fee of 5% of the approved customs value.
Duty and clearing
Import duty and taxes are assessed by the Kenya Revenue Authority when the vehicle is cleared. Your clearing agent can give you the figure for a specific vehicle.
Rules last checked October 2026. Import rules and taxes change, so always confirm the latest position with your clearing agent before you buy. We'll also check for you before you pay.
Duty calculator
Kenya import duty calculator
KRA works out duty from its own list price for the model (CRSP), reduced by up to 65% for age. Then it adds import duty (35%), excise duty (20–35% depending on engine size and fuel), VAT (16%), the Import Declaration Fee (2.5%) and the Railway Development Levy (2%). The calculator finds the model in KRA's current price list for you — just search for it.
This is an estimate. KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) makes the final assessment when the vehicle is cleared. Clearing agent, port charges and inland transport are not included. On any vehicle in our stock, tap Get CNF price to see the shipped price and the duty together.

Questions
Kenya FAQ
Can I import a 2018 vehicle into Kenya?
Not in 2026. Vehicles first registered in 2018 or earlier are no longer accepted. The earliest year allowed is 2019, and it moves forward each January.
What if the vehicle was made in 2018 but first registered in 2019?
Kenya counts the year of first registration, so a vehicle first registered in 2019 qualifies. We check the registration document before we quote.
Who inspects UK vehicles for Kenya?
QISJ (Quality Inspection Services Inc. Japan), appointed by KEBS, covers used vehicles from the UK and issues the Certificate of Roadworthiness.
Do you ship to Nairobi?
We ship to the port of Mombasa. Onward transport to Nairobi or elsewhere is usually arranged by your clearing agent.
Tell us the vehicle you're looking for and your country. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.
