Via Mombasa or Dar es SalaamImporting a vehicle from the UK to Uganda
Uganda is landlocked, so vehicles are shipped to Mombasa or Dar es Salaam and driven or trucked to Uganda. Imported vehicles must be under 15 years old from manufacture.
Import rules
What you can import into Uganda
15-year age limit
Vehicles older than 15 years cannot be imported. A 2026 bill to cut this to 13 years was withdrawn in April 2026.
Counted from manufacture
Uganda counts age from the date of manufacture, not first registration. A vehicle that turns 15 before it arrives can be rejected, so leave a safe margin.
Right-hand drive
Uganda drives on the left. All our UK vehicles are right-hand drive.
Shipping route
We ship to Mombasa or Dar es Salaam. Your transport or clearing agent arranges transit to Uganda.
Duty and clearing
Import duty and taxes are assessed by the Uganda Revenue Authority. Your clearing agent can give you the figure for a specific vehicle.
Rules last checked October 2026. Import rules and taxes change, so always confirm the latest position with your clearing agent before you buy. We'll also check for you before you pay.

URA values used vehicles from its own database, so this estimate starts from the CIF value. Taxes are import duty, VAT (18%), withholding tax (6%), the infrastructure levy (1.5%) and, for older vehicles, an environmental levy.
This is an estimate. URA (Uganda Revenue Authority) makes the final assessment when the vehicle is cleared. Clearing agent, port charges and inland transport are not included. On any vehicle in our stock, tap Get CNF price to see the shipped price and the duty together.

Prices on our website are FOB: the vehicle delivered to the UK port, in US dollars. Ask us for the CNF price, which adds sea freight to Mombasa or Dar es Salaam. Import duty, taxes and clearing in Uganda are paid separately in Uganda.

Is there an extra charge for older vehicles?
Yes. Used vehicles aged 8 years or more pay an environmental levy on top of import duty. Your clearing agent can confirm the current rate for a specific vehicle.
What is the oldest vehicle I can import into Uganda?
It must be under 15 years old from its date of manufacture when it arrives. We check the manufacture date before we quote.
Which port is better for Uganda?
Both Mombasa and Dar es Salaam are used. Your clearing or transport agent can advise which route is better for your town.
